Europe’s First Open RAN Is Fully Functional – Rakuten and Mavenir Are Technology Partners in 1&1’s Cloud-Native Mobile Network

As 1&1’s chosen core network partner, Mavenir is powering all core network components necessary for a state-of-the-art greenfield mobile network. Key components include a Converged Packet Core, Subscriber Data Management, Charging and Policy Functions, IMS Core and services, Business Support Systems (BSS), and Next-Generation AI-powered Operations Support Systems (ngOSS) incorporating advanced network analytics. Mavenir software runs as containers-based microservices on Rakuten Cloud Platform and serves both enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) customer segments.

Pardeep Kohli, Mavenir’s President, and Chief Executive Officer states: “We are pleased to have partnered with Rakuten Symphony in building and launching 1&1’s milestone network in Germany. Mavenir’s solution is built with cloud-native principles from the outset, using containerised and highly automated workloads. The software-centric design enables faster time-to-market, lower TCO, and transformation to a DevOps-based operating model. Thanks to Mavenir’s open Core network components, 1&1’s network is being built from the ground up to be fully interoperable with other MNOs, third-party system integrators, and Open Radio Access Network vendors, creating the optimal platform for 1&1’s future growth and solution evolution.”
