Telekom is now using a new platform for IP-based voice telephony in the fixed network. With the new “NIMS” (Next Generation IP Multimedia Subsystem) platform, the company is launching the cloudification of voice telephony.

Unlike traditional RAN, Open RAN decouples hardware and software and focuses on developing technology based on open interfaces and community-developed standards, giving operators more flexibility as they deploy and upgrade their network.
